Technology in the classroom

The Ipads can be used in math and science classes as well as the foreign language room by using the many apps available for free. The use of apps such as mathpad which is used for writing equations and could be useful for putting equations that are normally hard to put on tests easier. In general there are virtual books for each subject so students will not have to carry large textbooks. Science apps are numerous and could be used for many different classes. In language there are dictionaries and translators as well as learning apps.

Mathpad is an easy to use app that allows you to write equations and it makes them look nice as the image above shows. It makes it easy to export the equations as pictures that have no background color and can be used in something such as a test or quiz and can be used in science for complex equations to help students remember them and for new or multi-stepped math equations.

All of this is simple to learn how to use and can be used after looking through the built in tutorial.

iMovie

In iMovie you can easily take footage and edit it. You can add breaks fade effects titles and easily scroll through the video with a swipe of a finger. You can also slow down the footage for slow motion shots, split the footage to add a break, duplicate a section and put in a freeze frame. All of this is easy and only requires a little playing around to fully understand and use. iMovie enables the user to make a video with the camera and add it right into the current project.

Schoology

Although there are some ways in which schoology could be improved it is quite useful to students as it is a place where homework and assignments can be posted by teachers so that students can find them easily and each class has a separate link but there are due dates built in and discussions can be made available to students which may help people learn and give them a place to put their ideas. Schoology also gives a grade online which can be viewed by the student which can be helpful to know if the student is doing well or needs to wok on getting their grade up.

TED

http://www.ted.com/

TED is a great website to learn the basics of a subject and it has a variety of subjects that are discussed with varying levels of details. TED-Ed is an educational oriented branch from the original TED site. TED-Ed allows teachers to create videos themselves which can be watched anywhere their students have access to the site. Also by allowing anyone to create videos teachers can use other teachers presentations which may be exactly the same lesson with a different perspective. TED is made for people in higher levels of education and TED-Ed seems to be for a younger audience. The variety of topics and the easy navigation on the site make TED an effective learning tool.
